I have created my own website… and now what do I do? Steps to follow

Pide tu web aquí

When you say: I have created my own web site… and now what do I do? you show the overwhelm for having wasted time on a useless web site. Many people -without having any knowledge- embark on the adventure of creating their own website.

I have created my own website

The idea of shouting to the world“I have created my own website” seduces you and gives you the feeling that you will be able to adjust it to your liking, that you will also have total control of colors, design, texts and organization.

On the other hand, you think you will save money on “labor”, and not have to pay someone else … but when you discover the harsh reality you ask yourself: why did I get into this mess instead of dedicating myself to my products and my stock, which is where I will make money?

Not that you’ve done anything wrong! It’s just that over-enthusiasm has betrayed you! … (Popular wisdom)

Positive thinking” has played a dirty trick on us

Every day we receive messages of “you can do it” and “whatever you set your mind to, you will achieve it“. However, now that you’ve come this far you don’t think you can finish what you’ve started. After a while, you discover that there are many, many factors that you may not have considered at the time and that are not the “most fun”.

As I became obsessed with creating my website, I forgot about all the knowledge and time it would take to get it done. Creating my website was the only thing that mattered and without realizing it, I neglected the purchase of products, taking care of my store: hours that I neglected the stock, organizing or selecting products, attending customers, etc.

Positive thinking is not enough to make a website

Confidence and optimism are good, as long as they do not immobilize you and make you make mistakes.

Choosing colors, titles, shapes, page layout IS “FUN” .

However, there are routine, very rigid and strict things that you must consider when creating a web page or online store, such as adding meta data, performing a study of keywords or key phrases, making a study of your sector, your competition and foreseeing how to face it, analyzing the length and quality of texts and titles, among others. These things are the ones that make your website be considered by search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.) and finally be seen by the public.

Before starting to make your own website, you should analyze the REAL COSTSOF A WEBSITE  and if it is worth doing it or not.

But what were the steps that got you here?

You have had to “learn things” on the Internet

You’ve searched the internet and found a few things.

You have made an effort and started (and left) several tutorials. Did you know that there is a tag language called html which is used to structure the web and which you would also need to know javascript and css.

Then you have calculated the time it would take you to learn all that and you have seen that it would take you several weeks or a few months, so you have decided a quicker way out and you have been tempted by the promotions of “Make your web in a few minutes”.

So you think that creating my website will be the best solution. But is it really so?

I have created my own website ... and now what do I do?

Learning several tutorials on Youtube before making your web …

“Make your website in a few minutes” …

Some companies offer the possibility that you can make your own web site with “nice pre-designed blocks”, that you can “drag and drop” those blocks and that you can create single page web sites.

You will pay annually for the domain (reference name of your website) and month to month you will also pay for hosting (hosting) on their servers. You don’t think about promotions, or who will find your website in the search engines, you just think about it a little and it seems easy and tempting.

Eventually you end up making a website or store yourself !

Packaged websites and templates What is the problem?

Packaged websites are a tempting option: they propose that you can make a nice website -withoutknowing anything about html or javascript-and that you can leave it on their servers, paying only for the hosting service.

You start creating your web page, you contract and pay for a domain for one year (first you learn what it is about) -with automatic renewal for the next year- and you rent and pay monthly for the hosting in this service.

You make a nice website with the pre-designed blocks that they offer you, or a website composed of a single page (single page web) and after a while you realize that it does not work (because nobody is looking at it) . ..

LEFT ABANDONED THERE in the “INTERNET CEMETERY” cemetery.

Abandoning your website in oblivion for not knowing how to finish it

You leave your website abandoned to its fate on the server, waiting for someone to find it …

The web is there “left to its own devices”. You pay monthly for it, but see NO RESULTS IN THE FOLLOWING MONTHS and wonder what happened?

What happens to a website that nobody sees because it does not exist in the search engines?

IT IS NOT USEFUL, period

Maybe in two or three years it will be able to position itself somewhat (by chance), or by obsolescence it will end up falling even lower.

A website that is not prepared for positioning and that is not found in search engines DOES NOT EXIST. It’s as if you had no website at all: It doesn’t produce profits, they don’t find you in your area, they don’t interact with you.

A website must be perfectly structured and LIVE. It is necessary to have changes (with the support of a blog) that keeps changing by providing content and/or services.
